MEF Research Projects Competition — Participation Certificate
A participation certificate from the MEF Research Projects Competition, a national research contest for secondary-school students.
The competition
The MEF Research Projects Competition is a long-running national research projects competition for secondary-school students in Türkiye, organised by MEF Okulları. Teams submit a research project, which is reviewed before the event and then presented on site.
The result
The record here is participation in the 2024 edition: the project was submitted, accepted and presented, and it did not place.
Why a participation entry is listed
An honest record includes the entries that did not finish near the top. Leaving them out makes a list of results look like a straight line, which it never is.
There is also a practical reason. A national research competition is one of the few settings where a school-age project is read by people outside the school — reviewers who did not watch it being built, who have no context to fill in the gaps, and who will judge the written submission on what it actually says. That is a hard and useful test. It exposes the difference between a project the author understands and a project the author can explain: unstated assumptions, a method described too loosely to repeat, results reported without their error, a conclusion that reaches further than the data.
Entering, being read closely and not placing is a slower form of feedback than a prize, but it points at the same things a review board would.
