Essay competitions at this level are organised by the district directorate of national education — the İlçe Millî Eğitim Müdürlüğü — and run across the schools of a single district. Entries are written to a set theme, submitted through the schools and ranked at district level.

Why writing belongs on an engineering page

The rest of this site is mostly circuits, code and competition reports. A composition prize sits there for a reason that is not sentimental.

Every technical result on this site had to be written down before anyone accepted it: a project abstract for a jury, a research report with a method section, a patent application whose claims are read word by word. In each case the work was judged through prose. A design that is sound but described vaguely reads as a design that is not sound, and there is no way to appeal that impression later.

Writing to a fixed theme, at a fixed length, for a reader who is not obliged to be interested, is the same discipline in a smaller frame. Decide what the point is. Put it early. Cut the sentence that only sounds good. That habit transfers to a technical report more directly than most people expect.
